The Hand of Creation by Charles Sherman
The Hand of Creation
Bronze
25" x 17" x 14"
The Hand of Creation is cast bronze with patinas, and is elevated on a 4â stone base. The sculpture is part of my Bible Series.
The hand is double life-size and expresses grace, strength, and wisdom as the primordial umbilical cord flows out of the index finger and into the embryonic womb giving birth to Adam, whose name in Hebrew means from the earth. Adam is the name of the first human and all of Humanity.
"Then God said, Let Us make man in Our image...â Genesis 1:26
The Hand of Creation depicts the creative process of the Divine. The sculpture is also a metaphor for birth and the creative process. When we do creative work, we are also creating ourselves, giving birth to ourselves. An artist is at one with the Creator as the creative process takes place. The Divine hand, the nurturing aspect of the Divine, guides the artist's hand as he or she works. The Hand of Creation represents the unity of the universal creative process with Divine inspiration and creativity.
